“A Winnable Game For Us” – The Walsall View On Bolton Cup tie

|

Ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie we spoke to Vital Walsall to get the inside track on the Saddlers…

How would you assess your season so far?

Considering we battled to stay in the league last season I was delighted in October when we found ourselves in the top 10, however the last few months has been nothing short of frustrating! We have lost 10 of our last 19 in all competitions and once again we are slowly heading towards that drop zone!

Would you want a Cup run or are you more concerned about your league position?

We have only reached the third round twice in last ten years so we are enjoying this whilst it lasts! Takes some pressure and disappointment from our league performances. Got to admit we wasn’t over the moon facing you guys having played you a few times in the league recently but it’s a winnable game for us and a chance to progress further.

How do you expect to set up on Saturday? Strongest side or changes? What should we expect tactically too?

We have signed Matt Jarvis from Norwich so I would expect him to have a run out should he be fit but I still think Dean Keates will stick with the diamond formation he’s played recently with three central midfielders and Gordon and Ferrier cutting inside off the wings. Our defence is one of the worst in the league and we haven’t strengthened so expect to have a few chances!

Who is your player to watch?

Andy Cook. Picked him up from non-league in the summer and gave him his first chance in league football. He started off slowly but is starting to bang goals in and his all round game has improved – your defence and fans won’t like him!

Score prediction?

The way both defences are lately it could finish 6-6 but I’ll take any draw possible and bring you back for a replay!
