Nicolas Anelka had his best game of the season according the bods who compile the Actim Index, the official player ratings system of the Barclays Premier League. The Frenchman scored 31 points in Bolton`s 4-1 defeat of Wigan and is ranked 21st overall for the season.

‘The Actim Index is calculated using a unique mathematical formula that rates each player`s contribution be it goals, shots, passes, dribbles, tackles, crosses, saves, clearances, blocks, interceptions, assists, clean sheets, time on the pitch or number of points gained by the team with marks deducted for red and yellow cards,` according to the blurb. It doesn`t mention the points allocation for putting a penalty two feet over the bar.

Was it Anelka`s best game of the season or was Disraeli right in what he said about statistics?
