Arrivederci Pisano

Francesco Pisano has been released by Bolton Wanderers.

The right back signed from Cagliari on a free transfer last summer but only made a handful of appearances before disappearing off the face of the earth.

He looked fairly solid during the home game against Brighton in September, but then played only two more games, before not wearing the white shirt again, then eventually being loaned out to Serie B side Avellino.

The Bolton News had reported Pisano’s contract included substantial appearance bonuses. Given by the time he signed Wanderers were well down the road to financial ruin, this seems like an horrendous error of judgement by someone at the club.

I do think he could have been a good player. He probably is a good player. But it was very much the wrong club at the wrong time.

With Lawrie Wilson the only senior right back (if we’re not counting Josh Vela), that’s probably another area we need to recruit now.
