Barney gives his analysis of Dougie’s tactical approach

I’ve been reading your comments from the last few days. Sorry I missed it when you originally wrote it, Barney, but I thought your post after the Bury game resonated with me to describe Freedman’s tenure to date.
I’m sure most, if not all, of you have already read the comment, but by posting it as an article, one can use it as reference for upcoming games this season and maybe beyond.
Even the most hardened Dougie supporters would find it difficult to argue with Barney’s overview… I just hope- I’m sure like Barney does- Joe Mason’s third-coming is again the catalyst to justify Dougie’s philosophy…

‘Facts and figures are all very well and often they are quite intimidating when it comes to disputing/arguing with them. For me ignorance is bliss!

Some of us just want to tell it as we see it and over the years we’ve seen a lot. Having said that, I cannot fathom where Dougie Freedman is coming from with some of his remarks.

From day one he has put spin on the team’s efforts, either in an attempt to hide his own short-comings or to placate an increasingly hostile audience. He isn’t afraid to play up his own credentials and rather cleverly argue that fans can see where he is coming from (when they can’t) with his signings and tactics. Intimating that you are quite possibly thick if you don’t!

I reiterate that we have seen little or no improvement in Bolton’s all-round play since he arrived, except when Dawson organised things (and scored) or when Mason and Juke teamed up together. It was their outstanding ability for me that took us on those good runs. And yes I know Dougie signed them! But, short of that ability, we seem to play a very negative, nervous, shambolic , lacking in confidence, sort of game, with no proper organisation at the back and no credible focal point up front.

Dougie chops and changes the team for no reason and we end up with the dis-jointed outfit we saw on Tuesday night.

Dougie think long and hard about what you are doing. Forget some of the ‘clever’ new ideas you have been shown on the FA courses, because they don’t always come off and use a bit of common sense for a change! Let’s have players on the pitch who at least complement each other as far as possible, and try to include the odd gifted soul who might create something out of nothing. By the way, Pratley is not that man!
