Bolton Draw Skelmers…Sorry, Crewe In FA Cup

|

Bolton will play Crewe Alexandra in the first round of the FA Cup.

We’re at home for this tie, which will be played the weekend after next. It’ll probably take place on a Saturday, but that will be subject to the usual broadcast picks. In recent years multiple games at this stage have been moved to Sunday afternoon, even if they haven’t been on television in the UK.

The tie will also be settled on the day. There are no replays this season, so extra time and penalties will be used if needed.

Bolton were also drawn against Crewe in the EFL Trophy, losing their group game 3-2 at home last month.

Crewe were promoted from League Two last season, and currently sit 13th in League One, after winning three games out of seven so far.

It could have been a far more interesting tie, had draw presenter Lynsey Hipgrave’s initial words been right, after a misunderstanding she had said we drew Skelmersdale at home, a tie against the North West Counties side would have been a very different change of pace, a proper cup tie if you like, although in what seemed like a few moments of car-crash TV, it was just one of a few mistakes made, and in fact it’s a far less interesting tie against a team we’ve already faced this season.

Not like we can go to any of them anyway…
