Premium Price or Premier Value? Wigan win the league and Arsenal go down?

With the new football season set to start, ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) asks Premiership football fans: are you getting the best value for money from your season ticket?

As footballers` wages rocket annually, ticket prices follow. The question is – do some fans get better value for money than others? This is what a new study by ACCA has tried to uncover. With the top three running clear of the pack in our value for money table, it could almost be the premier league, but in our league – Wigan are sitting pretty, with Blackburn, and Aston Villa close behind.

There is no question that northern fans get better value, while London supporters are at the bottom of the league. The capital does not have one club in the top half of the table. The results are found by taking each team`s value (see further details below), dividing the value by the cost of the mid-range season ticket from that team, and multiplying the result by 100. The final scores were then put into the following league table:

Wigan 21.1
Blackburn 20.5
Aston Villa 17.6
Bolton 12.9
Everton 12.8
Hull 12.3
Sunderland 12.2
Man City 12.1
West Brom 12
Stoke 12
Middlesbrough 11.9
Liverpool 11.8
Chelsea 11.5
Man Utd 11.3
Fulham 10.6
Newcastle 10.2
Portsmouth 9
West Ham 7.9
Tottenham 7.1
Arsenal 6.4
