Bolton Flattered By 2-1 Scoreline

|

Sometimes scorelines reflect games rather well, but in yesterday’s case that probably wasn’t true.

Bolton only lost 2-1 to Preston, but that scoreline really flattered us. We were never in the game, and when Clayton Donaldson came off the bench and scored his first league goal for Bolton in the 90th minute, it sort of felt like a non-sequitur, both coming out of nowhere, and yet also a recognition it wouldn’t lead to anything further.

Struggling with injuries, particularly at the back, it was hard at times to work out whether we were playing with a back three (or five, if you must) or a back four, while things were only exacerbated by Luca Connell’s early injury.

It was worth starting Josh Magennis, and he offered more up front at least than Donaldson had done in the last few games, ironically only for Donaldson to eventually come on and get that goal. Remi Matthews kept his place ahead of Ben Alnwick, and made a few saves but apart from that there was once again next to nothing for Bolton to shout about.

Never mind we’ve only Birmingham, Norwich and Leeds in our next three games.
