Bolton Wanderers have scored a goal. Bolton Wanderers have scored two goals. Bolton Wanderers have won a league match. Yes, we`re finally off the mark in the 2017-18 season after a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.

With virtually everyone back, Josh Vela got to start behind Gary Madine, with Sammy Ameobi once again on the team sheet. And it was Ameobi who would break the wretched goalless run in the tenth minute, and in some style too. David Jones was left on his backside before the winger curled an effort past the helpless Joe Wildsmith.

It would have been a great game for the neutral. The Owls had chances, Mark Beevers has come in for criticism this season, but he was showing signs of last season`s form on this occasion, making a big clearance off the line. Coupled with Mark Little`s effort seconds later, one still wonders how on earth the ball was kept out.
Wanderers doubled their lead in the second half. It wasn`t the best delivery from Filipe Morais, but it wasn`t what it couldn`t be, not a floated cross, the drilled ball being turned in by substitute Sam Hutchinson, and Bolton were two to the good.

It wasn`t going to be a relaxing day though, Gary Madine hit the post, then after we struggled to clear our lines, (and a Morais handball that was lucky to be just a yellow card offence. From there, it was a hard watch, as we saw a team that had kept one clean sheet all season being pegged in. Both keepers made wonder saves with their feet, but after a lengthy spell of injury time, we got over the line, and those who made daft claims about not winning a game this season were proved wrong.
