Let`s go oriental,
Let`s go oriental,
Na na, naa naa,
Na na, naa naa.

He`ll shoot,
He`ll score,
He`ll eat your Labrador,
Lee Chung-Yong,
Lee Chung-Yong.

If a player is destined to become a cult hero, it`s essential to have a song for him. Maybe that`s where Johan Elmander is going wrong. He has too many syllables.

Of course it helps if said player can change a game. Against West Ham in the Carling Cup, Lee Chung-Yong teed up Elmander for his first goal in nine months and provided the cross from which Gary Cahill scored a wonder goal. At Birmingham City on Saturday, the provider turned scorer as Bolton once again snatched the points with a late goal, after Kevin Phillips had cancelled out Tamir Cohen`s ninth minute header.

Lee`s effort was a mixture of quick reactions, clumsiness, luck and genius. He responded first as Matt Taylor`s free kick hit a post, took a heavy first touch, almost fell over and then rounded two players before walking the ball into an empty net.

The Korean could have netted earlier, after being on the end of Kevin Davies`s through ball. He went wide of goalkeeper Joe Hart, but fired across the face of goal. Moments later Gavin McCann was through but shot tamely at Hart.

It looked as if that wastefulness would prove costly as Birmingham equalised. Lee blamed himself for giving the ball away, but is to be hoped that his colleagues take their share of responsibility. Not for the first time this season, the area in front of the penalty box was abandoned and veteran Phillips had time to make himself space and fire home.

The home side`s joy was short lived. About a minute and a half, before Lee did his stuff. The summer signing from FC Seoul, put his success down to Mum and Dad and divine intervention.

‘My parents arrived yesterday and were at the game today. It was their first time at an English Premier League match, and I would like to think they played their part by praying for me to score my first goal for Bolton Wanderers,` he told reporters.

Mr and Mrs Lee aren`t the only ones who had their prayers answered. It might just be that Whites fans have a new hero.
