Bolton are now ten points clear of third place for now after Mark Beevers struck in injury time to put us on the brink of promotion.

It is actually possible that we could seal the deal on Saturday. But for that to happen, we need Oxford to win tonight against Fleetwood, then both Fleetwood and Bradford lose on Saturday, while we win at Scunthorpe. Lots of ifs there..

Anyway, it was just rewards for a tough game, but one where we showed a good account of ourselves. We had the better chances in the first half, the post was hit twice and Adam Le Fondre lashed a chance over. Somehow the ball wouldn’t go in, and Nile Ranger nearly applied the sucker punch when Mark Howard as beaten, but the Mark Beevers and David Wheater partnership combined to get it off the line.

Gary Madine limped off, and had to be replaced by Max Clayton in the second half. Suddenly, as would be expected, we struggled to hold anything up, and Southend came into the game a lot more. Dean Moxey, excellent in the first half, wasn’t at the same level after the break. But Wanderers were getting some luck attacking down the right flank. Christian Walton made a couple of saves, including one when Le Fondre picked Clayton out but the shot was straight at the keeper.

Phil Brown was sent to the stands after losing it at what was, to be fair, another poor League One referee.

But just when it looked like a 0-0 was inevitable, Mark Beevers stroked home a loose ball from a corner to send the away end absolutely potty.
