Bolton have gone top of League One after a win at Bristol Rovers.

Unbeaten at home in 15 games, it could have been an awkward encounter, but the truth was Bolton blew them away in the first half. After a great pass found Josh Vela in space, he smashed home to open the scoring, before Jay Spearing curled in a beauty of a free kick to double the advantage.

Defensively Wanderers were strong too, Spearing shielding the back four well and the centre backs booting more or less everything away.

The second half was different. Words must have been had in the home dressing room, and soon enough Rovers had one back. A free kick hit the post, and fell for Ellis Harrison who scored.

In the later stages, Bolton were increasingly penned in, but rarely looked to be beaten in the air, and Wanderers held on. We’re top!
