Bolton Handed Wigan Tie

|

Bolton have been handed a tie away to Wigan, of all places, in the second round of the Carabao Cup.

The tie will likely be played on Tuesday 24th August at the DW Stadium. We could have drawn a Premier League team from the Northern section, which could have meant the likes of Leeds, Everton or Aston Villa, but in the end it’s a local derby away to a fellow League One side.

There might be one or two changes for the game, it would come in between a home game with Oxford United and a trip to Cambridge United, but with that particular opponent hopefully Ian Evatt goes as strong as practically possible.

It’ll be Bolton’s first trip to the DW since the 5-2 defeat in the Championship in March 2019. The last time we played them in this competition was in 2005, when we lost a quarter final tie 2-0, while we lost a two-legged tie in 1987. So basically, our League Cup record against Wigan isn’t good.
