Bolton : Megson Fails in Belgrade

Bolton manager Mystic Megson was last night reported to be furious that his plan to ensure Bolton`s exit from the UEFA cup had been thwarted. Megson left half a dozen first teamers in the departure lounge at Manchester Airport and just to make sure played a team without any recognised strikers.

All this was to no avail as Gavin McCann scored a first half winner for the Whites. McCann was trying to boot the ball into the stands, as instructed, but mis-kicked his effort and it ended up in the back of the net. Bolton became the first British team to beat Red Star Belgrade on their own turf, and they did it by accident.
