Bolton are out of the bottom three until Monday night at least after a well-deserved 3-1 win over Barnsley.
In what could have been described as a must win game, and with a reaction needed after last weekend`s thrashing at the hands of Wolves, Wanderers stepped up in a game that while not always packed with quality, did feature two teams who had a go and made for a decent spectacle.
A lot of the quality came from Mark Little, who set up the first Bolton goal with a wonderful run that gave Gary Madine the easiest of chances to convert, just moments after the striker missed a chance, heading over the bar.
Being Bolton though, something had to go wrong. Within seconds seemingly, Tom Bradshaw had burst free and Reece Burke, in for the suspended David Wheater, brought him down for a penalty, which Bradshaw converted to equalise.
We went back ahead through a penalty of our own. One appeal went begging, but when Will Buckley was brought down by Liam Lindsay with seven minutes until the break, Madine stepped up, and put one down the middle to restore the lead.
Ben Alnwick had to make a number of saves in the second half as he made amends for his shocker at Molineux seven days previous, scrambling away at times but ultimately keeping them out. If Little`s run for the first goal was good, an even better one was to come as went all the way in the 69th minute to score and give us a buffer.
