In a scrappy game, Bolton scored the scrappiest of goals as they scraped past Rochdale for what could be a huge win.

It was a late strike, but in the 82nd minute we got the winner. The Scots have a great word for what happened – a stramash. There were limbs everywhere, Filipe Morais had been given the decisive strike, but it was Mark Beevers who put it over the line, if it did ever go over.

We didn’t play well though. It was a game where Rochdale seemed happy to try an approach that be described as a poor man’s Crazy Gang as they were rough, happy to throw themselves down when it suited, and just be general ****houses.

Meanwhile, we were going long from Alnwick to Le Fondre and he was finding it hard to get a grip in the game, as was our central midfield trio.

Most of the good stuff came off the wings, Filipe Morais was excellent again, as was Dean Moxey when he came off the bench for Andy Taylor, who picked up a hamstring injury. In the system he probably didn’t have to worry about the defensive side of things, which helps.

For all his faults, Gary Madine did make the ball stick up top though, and when Chris Long came on he ran and ran. I like that.

There were good results elsewhere, as Scunthorpe drew, meaning we’re two points behind with a game in hand, while Sheff Utd only picked up a point.
