Bolton Set To Return To Full Strength For Cambridge Trip

|

After the Carabao Cup exit in midweek, attention turns once again to the league.

Bolton are back on the road, and they face familiar opponents as they take on fellow promoted side Cambridge. Wanderers will probably revert to something similar to the teams that beat Oxford and Lincoln, so there should be a fluid performance.

Team news

Amadou Bakayoko is out for the next few weeks, and Will Aimson probably won’t be brough back tomorrow. There should be returns for Lloyd Isgrove and MJ Williams, as Ian Evatt will probably revert back to a team similar to the Oxford game.

Predicted XI: Dixon; Jones, Santos, Johnston, John; Williams, Sheehan; Isgrove, Sarcevic, Afolayan; Doyle

Previously

Bolton’s last trip to the Abbey Stadium was last October. Billy Crellin chucked one in to give them the lead, but we would come away with a point after Antoni Sarcevic scored a late equaliser. We went on to finish third, Cambridge second.

The opposition

Since Mark Bonner took over days before the original lockdown Cambridge have been on an upward curve – promotion last season. They’ve made a reasonable start to the season, getting their first win with a 3-0 victory at home to Burton last weekend. The ‘Irish Messi’ Wes Hoolahan was nominated for League Two Player of The Year last season, striker Joe Ironside scored 14 league goals last season and agreed a contract extension this week. Defender George Williams has over 150 League One games under his belt, but was relegated from the division with Bristol Rovers last season. They have however lost last season’s top scorer Paul Mullin, who surprisingly went to link up with Phil Parkinson at Wrexham.

Prediction

That was a decent win for Cambridge last week, over a Burton side who had won their first three. I’m tempted to think that’ll give them a boost and they might beat us. 2-1.
