Bolton`s cautious approach to transfer dealing appears to have been of benefit, with the news that Swansea City midfielder Ferrie Bodde has suffered a re-occurrence of the cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him last year. Bodde lasted just eight minutes in the home game against Sheffield United.

The Whites offered £3.5 million for the Dutchman in the summer, based on his age, experience, injury history and resemblance to a Meerkat, but Swansea were insistent that he was worth £5 million. The Wanderers chose not to increase their bid.

It`s a similar situation to the one involving Jimmy Bullard. Fulham`s £5 million valuation was considered excessive and the search for a midfielder moved elsewhere. Bullard played 24 minutes for Hull before breaking down.

Not that Bolton have been entirely unscathed in this respect. Sean Davis is out for the foreseeable future with a cartilage problem. But at least there was no transfer fee involved.
