Bolton have been promising for a few weeks that one or more free agents could be joining the club, and now they have made their first, bringing in 34-year-old Karl Henry.

The midfielder can count Stoke, Wolves and QPR among his former clubs. He has been without a club since leaving Loftus Road in the summer, and had been training with West Brom before ultimately linking up with Bolton`s survival mission. His contract runs until the end of the season.

What will he bring to the team? He isn`t going to vastly increase the quality of the team, but what he might do is bring some fight some to the midfield, which we haven`t had this season. The obvious question will be how long will it take for him to get up to match fitness – it`s unlikely it would be right away, but once he is there would be worse calls than chucking him straight in the team, because we`ve tried everything else in midfield.
