Bolton Sign ‘Lightning Quick’ Wing Back

After not signing anyone for a while Bolton went back into the transfer market today – making Jamie Mascoll their 15th signing of the summer.

Mascoll last played for Wycombe, playing four games last season as they were promoted from League One. Mascoll is a left-back, with not too much experience. He made his name at Grays in the Isthmian League, where he attracted the attention of Charlton Athletic. He played in the Under-23 side there, but his first team involvement was limited to a handful of EFL Trophy appearances, and one goal against Wimbledon in 2018.

He joined Wycombe last season, but was released after making eight appearances in all competitions. The first word that seems to be mentioned with Mascoll is pace – it was the first thing a few Wycombe fans mentioned online, and indeed Ian Evatt said, “He is lighting quick, has excellent quality with his left foot and we are excited to add him into our group.”

We did need another left-back, so it was good to see that addressed. He is an unknown quantity, and it would be unfair to say he’s a great or a rubbish signing. He’s one of those who is young, can improve and seems to have potential, so let’s see how he gets on in League Two, and whether he can win the battle over Liam Gordon for the starting berth in that position.
