There are two positives to tonight. Firstly, Scunthorpe lost at home to Wimbledon (who we actually play next); secondly we didn’t lose our game and would still go second by winning our game in hand

And that’s it. Because the performance was horrendous. How we weren’t soundly beaten was a mystery. Instead, we came within 15 minutes of robbing a good Bristol Rovers side of any sort of points, when sub Byron Moore scored a deserved leveller.

The night started promisingly. Many were happy with the starting lineup, reverting to a back four with Josh Vela playing in the number 10 role, and Chris Long starting.

It got even better when Vela gave Wanderers the lead, Filipe Morais and Chris Long showed good movement and Vela slotted home.

Then that was it. When Bolton did play it on the floor, they could be a threat, with Long finding the side netting. But too often they reverted to going long when they had a player up top not as suited to that as Gary Madine.

Mark Howard also had a poor game, letting in Ellis Harrison who missed an open goal, as well as flapping at a few crosses. Rovers were also better on the ball and were toying with us at times.

Vela picked up a 10th booking of the season, but as one was in the EFL Trophy the suspension stays away just yet.

Jay Spearing came off at half time though, and it appears to be a ligament injury, which is just what we needed in midfield.
