Bolton Take Non-League Full-Back on Trial

|

Amongst all the possibilities that we might buy a player this season, Bolton Wanderers are still seemingly looking down the pyramid for a non-league gem as well.

Wanderers have taken a few players on trial from below the professional ranks in recent years and according to a reliable source, they’ve now invited left-back Nathan Ralph to show what he could potentially offer.

Ralph can also play further forward on the left flank. The 25-year-old does have league experience, in fact even being on the books of Yeovil Town in their Championship season back in 2013-14, but didn’t make an appearance that term.

He has played for Woking in the National League (or the Vauxhall Conference to give it its true name) for the last two seasons and is now out of contract.

I suppose there’s little harm in taking a player on trial, but I would suggest if we took a number of trialists from non-league, the proportion of them who would be good enough to play for us regularly wouldn’t be that high. Left-back is a position to address though, Antonee Robinson has returned to Everton, while I wouldn’t be keen on Andy Taylor being first-choice there next season.
