Bolton Travel To Cheltenham For Final Away Day

|

Bolton play their final away game of the season tomorrow, when they travel to Cheltenham.

A top 11 finish is guaranteed, and across the last two games the incentive will be to finish ahead of Ipswich and Portsmouth and secure what would be a respectable ninth spot.

Team news

Kyle Dempsey is available for the final two matches of the season after his spell out with injury, but Ricardo Santos, Kieran Lee, Lloyd Isgrove and Andrew Tutte all remain unavailable.

Possible XI: Trafford; Jones, Aimson, Johnston; Sadlier, Williams, Morley, John; Afolayan; Bodvarsson, Bakayoko

Last time

Our last visit to the Jonny-Rocks Stadium was last season’s league game in December 2020. Played in front of 2,000 home fans (well, they were all supposed to be home fans, but we get everywhere) Bolton managed to snatch a 1-0 win in injury time, after a flicked on corner was turned in by Ryan Delaney. Both teams ended up being automatically promoted from League Two.

The opposition

Michael Duff’s Cheltenham are in a similar position to Accrington on Monday. They’re 12 points behind us but could still finish 12th, which would represent a great first season back in League One. Alfie May needs little introduction. As well as scoring more than 20 goals this season, he scored both of their goals at the UniBol in November and also scored at our place last season, while Liam Sercombe will be the danger in midfield.

Prediction

Two teams with not a great deal to play for. We could beat them, they could beat us.  We’ve had away wins recently, but they’ve come at poor teams in Crewe and Doncaster. This will be tougher. May seems to enjoy a goal against us, so he might prove to be their matchwinner. 2-1 to them.
