Bolton v Girona: Stats and Reaction

Bolton remain undefeated in pre-season after a goalless draw with La Liga side Girona at Leyland’s County Ground today. Indeed, we could have won the game, but Clayton Donaldson failed to convert a penalty. Ah well, best to do it now.

Wanderers played a strong side, using a 4-3-3 system with trialist Gary O’Neil playing in midfield and Pawel Olkowski and Yanic Wildschut both getting their debuts – if you don’t count the Pole’s behind-closed-doors appearance against Morecambe. Sam Walker, Jack Hobbs, and Marcus Wood were all on the bench as they bid for possible deals. Stephen Ireland wasn’t in the squad but the former Irish international could still yet sign on.

There will be two more friendlies before the real stuff begins, with a trip to Guiseley on Tuesday before next weekend’s fixture against Peterborough United.

Bolton subs used: Darby, Hobbs, Le Fondre, Ameobi, Little, Pritchard, Buckley
