It took a full year in the end, but Phil Parkinson has finally got his man.
Wanderers wanted to sign Jason Lowe last summer after he had left Blackburn in the wake of their relegation. In the end, he joined Birmingham City, but now he has pitched up at the Macron, posing in the new home strip which was also unveiled today.
The central midfielder is a free transfer, signing on a two-year deal.

While not necessarily an exciting signing, it’s one that does ticks many boxes. Firstly, he’s a midfielder. We’ll need to get several in over the course of the summer, and if he hasn’t necessarily wowed fans at Ewood Park and St Andrews over the years, he’s good enough to be part of a squad, not old at 26 and has a good few years of Championship experience. No matter how good he is, we need more midfielders and other midfielders will be signed.
Statistically, he also seems to be a much better passer of the ball than anyone who turned up in our midfield last season, something which nobody would dispute we are in need of.
His time at Birmingham was curtailed by injury, although they had several problems with muscle injuries, which would probably lead to a training problem.
In any case, we’ve had a number of players over the years that Blackburn have had and their fans hadn’t liked. Per Frandsen, Kevin Davies, Youri Djorkaeff. They wouldn’t know quality if it hit them in the face.
“It’s (the club) got great history, a great stadium, a good manager, a lot of good lads in the dressing room for sure. I’m excited to be just competing. At my previous club it just didn’t work out. That’s football. I’m just excited to be here and hopefully, we can do something.”
