Twitter obsession? Who has a Twitter obsession? #whohasatwitterobession

Afternoon all, and welcome to my penultimate article on this site. Some may say that I’m milking it for all I’m worth, my wife included. And, like Al has said, the goodbye has been so elongated, it’s like I’m never going to go. But go I am on Thursday. So this is really the last normal article, as Thursday’s will be a stonking diatribe that aussie mike is going to just love. And there will be the big reveal to the reason why there is never a ‘none of them’ option in the man of the match polls. Something, I’m sure, you won’t want to miss.

So, what’s in the news. It turns out that when we beat Sunderland next week, Everton will be coming to visit the Reebok at the end of the month. You will recall, if you’re as old as me, that Everton were one of the teams we beat in the FA Cup when we were last a lower division team. And David Moyes was the last manager we came up against when we were a lower league side. Historical significance? Probably not.

We do, of course, have to get past Sunderland again. But, if lifelong Celtic Villa Sunderland fan, Martin O’Neill would be so good to play TITus again, that would be just lovely.

Of course, the major news is that Marvin Sordell is obsessed with Twitter. I don’t know if this is a medical condition that you can rub cream in, but his continual use of the social network has been partly blamed for this inability to get into the team since we parted with more than three million of the Queen’s pound to bring him from Watford.

I’ve said before, many times if I recall, the Bolton as a club have a problem with Twitter, be it the chairman calling the fans names, people wishing SKD dead or his wife flogging make up. And wishing people dead. There had to be a tighter rein on the use of social media and, when he came to the club, Dougie, apparently, laid out guidelines as to what could and couldn’t be said.

It could be bordering on an obsession with Twitter and Facebook and all the things that go on with these kids.‘ said Dougie, admitting that he isn’t down with current trends before joking (at least, it is believed that he was joking), that they had taken Sordell’s phone off him.

There is an admittance that he is homesick but that there is nothing going on behind the scenes to try and get him out of the club. Which is good.

Now, I’m going to admit that I haven’t seen a great deal of Sordell this season. However, I am not alone in this by any stretch of the imagination and the large swell of Sunderland fans who travelled, for whatever reason, at the weekend join a select group who have. I don’t believe that a club like ours can just write off a player like Sordell and that he needs to be given more than one chance. Apparently Cardiff may be in for him, which won’t exactly help his homesickness. And they speak a foreign language.

To me, we need strikers and even, as seems likely, Craig Davies joins, letting Sordell go will still leave us light. If Dougie can get to the bottom of his malaise, and he says that he is the man to do it (despite not being to work a computer) then we will still have a goalscorer. His goals scored per starts is pretty good, albeit from few starts, and offers something that the other strikers don’t.

He may also be helped by the return to the team of half a midfield and a central defender who has a semblance of idea what he is doing. Tonight, at Oldham, Stuart Holden and his lovely hair, Josh Vela, Mark Davies and David Wheater will all take steps towards full fitness.

I’ll admit, I had completely forgotten that now was about the time that Wheater was due back. About six months they said last May. And, here we are, about six months later. Very good news.

Now, don’t go thinking that these four players returning will spring us up the table unbeaten. Football doesn’t work like that. But what it will do is give the squad a shake up that is badly needed and, with the possibility of new players coming in, the turn of the year may be more positive than we may have thought.

And with that cheery thought, sorry mike, I will leave you for today. Diatribe Thursday.
