Sorry for the absence of your Vital Bolton service……

Evening everyone. I apologise for my absence so far this week; a trip to the Leyland County Ground on Monday (which I`ll discuss later) left my utterly exhausted, whereas last night I was feeling a little bit under the weather. I hope you don`t begrudge me taking it easy and making sure I was alright for work.

This is where I really need a co-editor. If you`re interested in writing for the site, either several times a week or as a ‘super sub` in times of need, please email me using the link on the homepage. Just send me your details, credentials and some examples of your work. And if you are a regular to the site and you want to send me a guest article; PLEASE DO!

So, Bolton. I think as it`s already Wednesday, I`ll omit a match report for the Burnley game. You have almost certainly read one somewhere else! In short, I was very happy with the three points, very happy with the substitutions, and frustrated by my fellow fans. If any of you are in the instant-gratification brigade that moans every second of every game where a ball isn`t going into the opponents` net, go away now and never return to Vital Bolton. We don`t want your type round here. I don`t like booing, and you are driving me up the wall. You are making me consider whether or not to renew my season ticket. And don`t you get me started on the jeering of Chris Eagles?.

Oh, and Chungy as Man Of The Match? Guys??

We now have the opportunity to go to Nottingham at the weekend and win two games in succession. Have we done that this season? It certainly doesn`t feel like it. We`re still dangerously low in the table, and despite people talking about our proximity to both ends of the Championship, I have not got a promotion-chasing head on. I don`t think many of us have. We need points every weekend to ensure that we don`t make that drop into positions 22 through 24.

There`s not been a huge amount in the news, so I`ll move onto what I saw in our 1-0 win against Bury Reserves on Monday. Firstly; I saw my breath. It was freezing! Despite the cold, I saw several first team players get a full run out and make those steps towards a first-team return.

Wheater played very well as he partnered Matt Mills at the back. Not that he had to be great; the Bury strikeforce consisted of an ageing, chubby David Healy and some bloke called Yulu. I thought that was a saying? It appears to be seen how long it will be before the smoggie stopper is back in our starting eleven, but he put in a good performance.

Gregg Wylde put in an average performance, and you can see why he hasn`t got close to playing a part this year. He was adept at the taking on the young defenders on the other side, but lacked an end product. Yes, he crossed in the ball for the own goal, but it was to no-one and should have just been cleared.

The main attraction was the midfield partnership of Stuart Holden (playing against his less-talented brother Euan) and new signing Medo. Many people are billing this as the two we can build our team around once they are fully fit, even without seeing our new number 44.Whilst Stu had a good game, it looks like Medo may need a few games to get into the swing of things, and pick up some match sharpness. I`ll be interested to see how he improves over the coming months.

So that`s it for another day. There is a guest article and I`ll be posting that tonight. Does anybody fancy doing one for tomorrow so I can focus my attentions on Valentine`s Day cooking? Anyone? Go on, you know you want to.
