Evening all. It feels bizarre to be writing a match preview on my first working day of the week, considering we played at the weekend; but yes, Tuesday is here and about to get interesting. We play a Huddersfield team that was sunk into the relegation zone after matches played night, and have only won three of their last ten games. We, however, need to get back on the horse after successive defeats have left our playoff dreams in tatters.
However, results were favourable yesterday, and if Charlton can snatch something at Brighton tonight, a win for us would put us right back in with a shout. What a crazy and beautiful league this is! I almost don`t want to go up!*
*I do. I really, really do.
It appears that the online staff for the official website are taking this extended weekend a little too far, and at the time of writing (not very far from two hours before kickoff), haven`t put a thing up for Dougie`s press conference. Maybe he hasn`t had one?
Either way, I bet he`d say something just perfect. He smashes those conferences week in, week out. You certainly couldn`t make a bingo game out of them like you could his predecessor.
Bolton Wanderers Team News:
Sam Ricketts (suspension) and Tyrone Mears (inured) are both out, which means that Danny ‘Brian` Butterfield is set to make his full debut at right back. Craig Davies is also out after being the second of the lads to get sent off on Saturday. Shame, as it`s a game he`d probably thrive in.
Player to watch: Oooo Marcos Alonso
Alonso`s performance will have a huge impact on how we fare in this game. I expect he will combat the threat of Huddersfield`s wide players well, and partner up with CY Lee in attack. I`ve also marked him out to watch as I think he`ll be one to leave in the summer if we don`t go up. He`s truly started to blossom as a footballer, and has come on leaps and bounds in the last year. Let`s enjoy him whilst his spell at the club lasts.
Huddersfield Team News:
Keith Southern and Adam Clayton, big players for the Terriers, will miss the game through injury and suspension respectively. Joel Lynch could return, but as I have no idea who he is, I`m not sure if this is bad news.
Player to watch: Sean Scannell
Someone I do know about is Sean Scannell. Highly rated at Crystal Palace, I was surpised to see him sold to Huddersfield when they were promoted in the summer. Quick and skillful, the striker come winger will cause problems for Butterfield (if he`s as bad as I think he is).
Match Facts & Stats
Zat Knight is expected to make his 150th appearance for the club tonight. Did anyone truly expect that to happen?
We are looking for our sixth win in a row at home, and I thoroughly expect us to get it.
I think we`ll win this one 2-0. I thought that we`d beat Charlton 1-0 in a quiet affair, so maybe I`m not the best at predictions.
Wolves at home on Saturday, followed by Bristol City away a week later. Three games that we need to get nine points from if we are to even think about finishing sixth.
