Bolton Win At Lincoln With Improved Defensive Display

|

Bolton got their first win of the season last night as they pulled off an impressive 1-0 win at much-fancied Lincoln City.

Antoni Sarcevic scored 12 minutes from time as we also managed a first clean sheet in the league, on a night where just over 1,000 fans made the trip to Sincil Bank, while everyone else had to sit through iFollow not working for a sizeable period at the start of either half. At least we get a full refund back, and didn’t miss the important moment…

On the night, there were lots of encouraging things. After conceding three in each of the MK Dons and Wimbledon matches, there was a bit of worry over the defence, but they put in a much better performance. And it’s not as if they weren’t tested, Lincoln did have over a dozen chances over the course of the evening, with it being one-way traffic in the first half. Joel Dixon got the nod in goal again, and did no harm in making the case for himself to keep the gloves.

After the break though we started creating our own chances, with one being cleared off the line, almost a ‘how did that not go in?’ moment, before Josh Sheehan, who had scored in both league games so far, nearly made it three from three after forcing a save out of Josh Griffiths. An honourable mention to Gethin Jones too, after the equaliser on Saturday came down his side, he put in a great performance last night.

The goal came after pressure from Lloyd Isgrove, who came on quite early for the injured Amadou Bakayoko. It forced a mistake between left back Tayo Edun and their keeper, Elias Kachunga was there and the ball eventually made its way over to Sarcevic who scored what proved to be the winner.

A fantastic result, Lincoln tested the defence, but we held on, were composed with the ball and went on to win it. It’s also a good thing to get that first win on the board. We’re also on five points, five more than after three games last season.
