Bolton With Loads Of Chances But Undone By Officials

|

It’s a game that we should have won, and easily at that.

Bolton were held to a goalless draw by Burton Albion last night in front of the TV cameras, but the night will be remembered for a goal which should have stood. After a double chance from Eoin Doyle was denied by their keeper Ben Garratt, who while was excellent was also a massive time-waster. Kieran Lee would follow up, and while the goal was initially given, the Burton players whinged loud enough to get into the officials’ heads and the goal was subsequently overturned.

We had 25 other shots in that game, compared to Burton’s 10. Joel Dixon was only called into action once, with a fairly straightforward save in the first half, as we were the ones doing the attacking and Burton largely happy to defend. It worked for them. Maybe when we’ve had so many shots, it would be nice to have actually scored at least a couple (one should have stood after all) but it was a pleasing performance. It just needed a goal. There wasn’t a bad performance amongst any of the players. Bar one slip, the defenders were comfortable. Liam Gordon came forward well, a player who has really turned it around with us. Kieran Lee added a bit of solidity in midfield, while Dapo Afolayan had another set of right sided players on strings.

We’ll play worse than that this season and win games.
