BWFC: Catalyst

I’ll keep it short because I don’t want to be too negative and not writing too much will be the only thing to ensure that!

Last evening we beat Eastleigh, a game that provided potential for a real ‘banana skin’ as they like to say in Football Manager 2016. However, we overcame it with a 3-2 win.

Yes, we only beat Eastleigh, a team several divisions below us, by a goal. However, let’s be thankful that we did win; it looked for a while like that wouldn’t be the case and to be honest I had us down to lose that and I’m sure many others did to (or at least hoped that we would lose).

Many a pundit suggested that by beating us, Eastleigh would put the final nail in the coffin for Bolton and help destroy a sinking ship. Well, that’s very nice, isn’t it.

I briefly read Darren Pratley’s latest interview in which he said that it would be a ‘miracle’ if we stayed up (or something to that effect). I do believe in miracles, and I still do think we can stay up- not saying that I think I will, mind!

Somewhat of a mockery has been made of our club in recent weeks, and understandably so, as we’ve been unable to pay players and meanwhile, on the field, things have been woeful too. Neil Lennon’s never been the most loved man in football and along with recent allegations of his non-football related wrongdoings, people have had an absolute field day of making fun of us.

However sad this sounds, a close win over Eastleigh could be just what we need. I say this after anything vaguely un-negative happens, I know, but eventually one of these will turn out to be the catalyst for something good, right?

Let’s hope that this time this win does get us going. We’ll get a little money from a game against Leeds in the next round, and our team isn’t that bad; we shouldn’t be so far adrift at the bottom of the table. The fact is that we are and that we have to correct it.

Neil Lennon and the players need to step up. The floor is theirs and I don’t want any excuses about things going on off the pitch. We need results and the fact that a very narrow win over a Vanarama National League side seems such a surprise speaks volumes and shows them how much they need to up their games.
