Another veteran linked with a Macron switch

So, you’ll probably have seen that former England attacking dynamo, Emile Heskey is joined Eidur Gujohnsen and the Bolton Wanderers squad for training- reportedly also in the hope of getting a contract.

I tweeted this earlier, but I think it’s important to emphasise how certain I am that Heskey will NOT sign.

People have had a lot of fun with Heskey jokes about FIFA on YouTube etc… (if you haven’t, I advise that you don’t look them up) predominantly about his incredible strength and hapless finishing, and many would love the idea of Heskey being at Bolton just because it would be funny.

Let’s not kid ourselves here, we can’t afford to sign top players, let alone sign players because it would be funny.

Neil Lennon’s no idiot and, while he may have a good relationship with the former Liverpool striker, I strongly doubt that he actually will consider signing Heskey.

I think bringing in Gudjohnsen was pushing things a bit- he, like Heskey is 36, but is a former favourite at Bolton and was a world class player back in the day. Heskey, quite frankly never has been.

Heskey failed score more than 10 goals in 40+ appearances for the Newcastle Jets in Australia, and while goalscoring has never been central to his game, that’s really poor for a league that is less competitive than the Championship.

I think this may well be a case of Neil Lennon doing his friend a favour, in letting him train and use our facilities, as opposed to trying to lure him in.

Thoughts?
