BWFC: Good On You

Neil Lennon’s taken a bit of a rollicking in recent times, both on and off the pitch. This is an incredibly difficult situation for everyone involved so now I think it’s time to give him some credit.

While staff haven’t been paid yet again, Lennon has revealed that along with some of his coaching staff, he’s been giving money to help some of the less well off staff in other departments.

You can say, well he can actually effect results which has an effect on the team’s finances and subsequent ability to pay staff but the bottom line is that he’s not getting paid anyway. He’s contractually entitled to his X amount every month or however they do it and he’s not been getting it.

However, he’s identified that while it’s not great for himself obviously, he could go longer without pay, having been a manager and player at a high level and subsequently earned himself a fair amount of money in his time.

I had a lot of admiration for him prior to the whole knifegate incident and to be honest I completely tried to forget why I admired him because I obviously do not condone that time of behaviour. However this gesture of goodwill does show the kind of person he is.

While he may turn up to training in his Range Rover Sport every day and park it alongside the cars of the club staff who have given so much commitment to the club over the years who are struggling to make ends meet, you would hope that he’d think about them, but thinking and doing are two very different things. He’s going out and trying to help them.

Of course I have no clue as to how many people he and his coaching staff have supported or whether they’ve even given very much money, but anyhow, this is a good gesture and let’s give credit where credit’s due.

And by the way, apparently we have a match today.
