I hate the international break….

How`s everyone enjoying their international break weekend? I can`t say that I sat down to watch England`s game last night; from what I hear about ITV`s lack of respect for a country with a population eight times smaller than Bolton, and the lack of excitement you would expect from an England game, I don`t think I missed much. Apart from eight goals.

It feels like Saturday has been cancelled. Yes, I`m off work. And I haven`t got dressed yet. And I don`t have to go anywhere. But I want to go somewhere? The Reebok! Can we not just cancel International Football? We only have our heart in it once every two years, and every time it`s heartache. At least club football has it`s peaks to combat the troughs. Although saying that, I`m a little scared we may be sliding downhill?

There`s not much Bolton Wanderers news hanging about, which is fairly standard in these frustrating elongated gaps between matches, but rather quite surprising considering that we should be looking for our Mystery Man as detailed in my last post. News on players coming in has come to a standstill. Maybe Dougie is happy with the squad. Maybe it has all gone silent because we`re about to pull off a coup. The only thing I have seen with regards to loans is a rather unlikely one, involving a certain deity and his quicker exit from the club than expected. And to Sheffield Wednesday, still tainted by the stench of Megson, of all club.

I`ll wait to say what I have to say about Kevin Davies leaving Bolton Wanderers until he has left Bolton Wanderers. It`s nothing I want to rush, or something I want to consider until the end of the season. I certainly don`t think he is going to forsake the (even slim) opportunity to lift a (sort-of) trophy for the club he has accepted so deeply into his heart, for a chance to play a couple more games this season, for a club he grew up hating as a child. Not a chance.

It`s a week until our game against Charlton, and for me it cannot come sooner. The Ipswich game probably couldn`t have come at a worse possible time. With the momentum that had been picking up over the last few weeks, if we had played midweek or today, I feel like we could`ve have shook off any disappointment from the defeat and got back to winning ways.

However, the international break is a long enough time to think, think and overthink a defeat again and again. I`m worried that the player`s confidence may have taken a knock, and that because we haven`t had an instant chance to bounce back, we`ll begin to slump. From a fan`s perspective, I certainly feel like our promotion chances have taken a bit of a back-step, so I cannot imagine what the players are thinking.

Seven days until the next biggest game of the season so far. We need to get the promotion push back on with a bang. Lose, and it`s all over?
