Part 2: Bolton-Houston Dynamo

14th place- not too bad for a club like ours. It could have been so much better had the incident not occurred.

We brought in some exciting new faces the following Summer, such as Nigel Reo-Coker and Chris Eagles- the mercurial winger that helped Burnley to promotion and almost kept them up.

However, we had another two incidents.

Star man, Chung Yong Lee was out along with new arrival Tyrone Mears.

This season was much much harder for us and we lost two more players along the way…

Stuart Holden- a man whom injuries robbed of a career at the highest level had succumbed once again.

Fabrice Muamba, in March, suffered a heart attack, during an FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur.

We lost two more troopers, who still haven’t been replaced.

Still the rest of the Bolton Wanderers contingent battled bravely, and Owen Coyle handled himself excellently througout with immense respect and dignity.

We were relegated, following two more incidents by Stoke- at the hand of former Bolton Wanderers youth player, Jonathan Walters. He robbed the team who gave him his start in football of their hard-earned to-flight status by cheating and scoring an undeserved penalty before knocking Adam Bogdan into his own goal.

Bolton Wanderers fans were amazing on that day and still they cheered their team on, but they were relegated.

Owen Coyle and captain, Kevin Davies vowed to stay on and help their club back up next season, though it wasn’t to be.

Bolton’s star-studded Championship team- containing Jay Spearing, Marcos Alonso and Martin Petrov were unable to impress in the Championship and so it ended at Bolton for Coyle.

Coyle was out of work from October 2012 to the summer of 2013 when Wigan came knocking on his door.

There, Coyle was treated terribly by Dave Whelan who forced him o resign after six months.

I will always hold affection to Coyle who now embarks on a new stage of his life in Texas. It’s funny that he should join the club from whom he recruited Stuart Holden- a star whose career has been plagued by injury.

Some may not remember Coyle as fondly. Some will criticise his tactics or financial conrtol, though I have and always will be very grateful for what he brought to this club.
