Today I thought I’d bring to your attention, if you haven’t seen already seen, the list of the top clubs in England. This is something that has been debated quite a bit around the Vital Network and thought it’d be interesting to share our views on it.The Daily Mail Online… have compiled a list of what they believe to be the 50 biggest clubs in the land. I feel that this is of particular interest given that our financial figures were released yesterday.

You can also see the all time top flight league table via: www.myfootballfacts.com

However SportsMail took into account more. They looked at:

1) Crowds, both now and historically
2) Global fanbase looking at social media platforms
3) Trophies
4) Average league finish since the 1888/89 season
5) Player quality
6) Income

The above categories are somewhat ambiguous and the table has caused quite a stir on Twitter!

We rank 19th in the Daily Mail’s and 13th in the My Football Facts’. To be honest, while we may well lie in the bottom half of the second tier of English football, I’m not surprised to see us stand relatively highly. 13th is perhaps a little flattering, though. Many may disagree, and I do know I have the tendency to look at our club with rose-tinted glasses!

What are your thoughts on this? I know this will mean a lot to some, while others may completely disregard this and say that what matters is what’s going on now!

Anyway, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments and I think that this could be an interesting debate!
