Firstly, this isn’t going to be a ‘normal’ match report as I had to miss today’s game. More a series of takeaways.

We may as well start with the obvious stuff. Zach Clough is off the mark with two goals, his first two of the season. It seemed to be a case of right place, right time with the second. The first was Clough at his best, a wonderful free kick to light up a hard-working performance.

Seemingly, Oldham had their chances, but like us at times this season, couldn’t capitalise. Josh Vela was rated by many, playing further forward in place of Liam Trotter, while it transpired Tom Thorpe had been unwell but managed to get into the club’s man of the match shortlist.

The back four may be establishing itself now too. 180 minutes without a goal conceded for Wilson, Beevers, Wheater and Taylor
