Could It Happen? Bolton Secure Massive Win At Oxford

Right, we can officially think about having a go at the play-offs.

It’s still tough, but at eight points now the gap is just about a size where we’ve got a shout of reeling this in.

It was a 3-2 win today, we probably weren’t the better team, but when we had our chances we took them, something we’ve not always said this season. A first half could have ended up any score, twice we trailed thanks to Billy Bodin, but on both occasions we pulled it back. Declan John scored his second goal in a matter of weeks for the first goal, while Marlon Fossey, who was tremendous today, scored the second. His finishing hasn’t been the best in his short time with us, but there was no problem here, with a nice curling effort, followed by an impressive somersault celebration.

The second half yielded more Oxford chances than Bolton ones. Dion Charles had an effort on target, but a decision which wasn’t universally backed at the time proved to be the right one from Ian Evatt. Charles came off to make way for Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, when quite a few of the fans in the sold out away end wanted Amadou Bakayoko to come off. It wasn’t without logic, Bakayoko seemed to have struggled to win a lot, but he would do the most important part of his job. Score goals. In the final 10 minutes, Gethin Jones played a magnificent ball forward for Fossey, who crossed for Bakayoko to score for the second straight away game.

A huge win. Could it happen? It might do.
