It’s no surprise that Kevin Davies wants to stay at Bolton. If anyone has profited under Big Sam’s management, it’s the ex-Chesterfield man.

Let’s not forget that Davies was one of the most promsising youngsters in the country when he moved to Blackburn from Southmapton for a small fortune (£7.25M + James Beattie) back in 1998.His career was going nowhere when Bolton picked him up on a free transfer and the rest is history.

If there’s a harder working forward in the whole of the Premiership, I’ve yet to see him. He’s not a prolific goalscorer but boy does he provide for others. He’s also the first line of the Bolton defence and any full back wanting to dwell on the ball had better watch out. Matthew Etherington was on the end of a typical Davies tackle on Saturday. He managed to get around a few players before Davies showed him the meaning of a ‘full-bloodied challenge’.

Only idiotic Bolton fans of limited IQ complain about him. The vast majority stand back in awe of his workload and committment.

Earlier on today, he told BBC Radio Manchester, ‘There are still discussions going on but I have told the people who are involved I want to stay here.

‘And everyone knows I am happy at Bolton and I am confident the matter will be solved.’

Bolton Wanderers and Kevin Davies were made for each other. It’s the home of a previous English centre-forward who was a bit of a handful. And that sums Kev Davies up. He’s a typical English centre-forward – and a bloody good one at that.
