Defender Signed, But What Next?

|

Bolton have made another signing, adding in defence this time as they announced the acquisition of Marc Wilson on a one-year deal.

The former Irish international can play left or centre-back and has plenty of experience, spending a good spell at Stoke City in the Premier League. He is 30 though, so another older signing, and he spent last season at Sunderland as part of the side that was relegated for the second successive year, and understandably hadn’t really impressed fans on Wearside.

Having said that, it’s difficult not to be an improvement on what Andy Taylor was serving up from left-back at the end of last season, and Antonee Robinson may not have been an option, however welcome a return would have been.

Wanderers are probably still two players short at the back – Jack Hobbs would probably ending up filling one of those gaps, and then that arguably means we need one other centre-back, possibly Tommie Hoban going off recent reports. That is of course, if nobody leaves, with Mark Beevers apparently courting interest from Rangers. That would mean a move away from the area though when the location was a big reason he came to Bolton in the first place.
