El Hadji Diouf is still uncertain about his plans for next season. Speaking to French news magazine L’Observateur, Diouf revealed that he would prefer to stay in England and that his agent was talking to a number of clubs.

“Certainly, if Newcastle were interested in me, I would not say no. I know their manager Sam Allardyce who is a friend and a father to me. Arsenal, we shall have to see. My agent is speaking to them but all that I can say is I must pray that God helps me make the right choice.”

You certainly need some guidance Dioufy. Jens Lehman has just re-signed for Arsenal. That`s the big German bloke you slapped around a couple of years ago in an FA Cup tie. Do you reckon he`ll be pleased to see you? And you`re on dodgy ground with Newcastle as well, after upsetting every Geordie in St James Park with your goal celebrations last season. Even Sam Allardyce will have difficulty smoothing that one over.

Meanwhile, there are reports that contract negotiations with Jussi Jaaskelainen have stalled. This has surprised the player, who says they haven`t started yet. The Bolton ‘keeper has been linked with comedy club Sunderland, but not by anyone remotely sensible.

Elsewhere ex-Bolton goalkeeper Gavin Ward has been released from Tranmere. He would surely be a realistic and more achievable target for Roy Keane.

Manager Sammy Lee is still waiting to find out whether defenders Tal Ben Haim and Blazej Augustyn will be agreeing new contracts, but reports, still unconfirmed, indicate that Ben Haim will put pen to paper on a two year deal.
