Former Bolton bad boy El Hadji Diouf is in trouble again if reports are to be believed. The reports in question come from the keyboard of Alan ‘Porky` Nixon, the Hans Christian Andersen of football writing, so they`re best taken with more than a pinch of salt.

The claim is that Diouf was involved in an argument at the town`s J2 nightclub, when he should have been tucked up in bed, the day before his present side, Blackburn Rovers, played Everton – a match in which he has been accused of racially abusing a ball boy. Earlier he`d had an altercation with away fans after watching the game between Bolton and Stoke. Clearly, not his best weekend.

Diouf seems to have spent more time at the Reebok than Ewood Park of late. He was at the Carling Cup game with West Ham, despite Blackburn having a game at Nottingham Forest the same evening.

Perhaps he misses the place and wants to come back. Despite expressing a desire to jump ship when the Whites were in the midst of a relegation battle, he`s still warmly regarded by many fans. He might be an idiot, runs the logic, but he was our idiot.

Would you have El Hadji Diouf back? Vote in the latest Vital Bolton poll.

  • Diouf is trouble and always will be but he can play. Different class. When we are Megson defensive mode (most of the time) he is an outlet who can hang onto the ball in the other half until we get someone forward. Without someone like him we clear by hoofing it out – then it comes straight back. Particularly against the top sides which is why, with Megson, they always beat us.
