Gary Megson has revealed that star striker Johan Elmander suffered a hamstring injury in the defeat against Newcastle United. The Swede limped off after fifteen minutes and it was initially thought that he had suffered damage to his knee.

‘Johan has got a problem with his hamstring and Matty Taylor got a knock on his big toe. Hopefully, neither of them will be out for a long time,` said the Wanderers boss.

It seems like wishful thinking. Elmander had to be substituted against Stoke because of a tight hamstring. Such problems tend to reoccur and eventually result in a lay off lasting for six weeks or so. The alternatives don`t look good. Temitope Obadeyi – Not good enough. Heidar Helguson – always injured and not good enough. Ricardo Vaz Te – terrible attitude and not good enough. Then there`s Zoltan Harsanyi, who has something to offer but won`t be given a chance by Megson

Unless significant signings are made in what remains of the transfer window, Bolton will be as toothless as they were last season. It`s time to get your cheque book out Uncle Eddie.
