So, the news we’ve all been waiting for- the signing of Emile Heskey…

The former Liverpool man impressed Neil Lennon with his physical prowess during an U21 game on Monday and was taken off after an hour- possibly to save him up for Bolton’s boxing day fixture against local rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Heskey had played alongside Lennon at Leicester City when he was 18, and Lennon spoke of his talent that was visible from a young age.

I actually used to know Heskey’s grandfather by the way…

Anyway, Heskey joins a Bolton side very light on strikers and will make up a three pronged strike force also including young Conor Wilkinson and fellow veteran Eidur Gudjohnsen for the Blackburn game, provided that he is given international clearance- his last team being the Newcastle Jets of Australia.

If Heskey has something to offer to the club, which Lennon appears to think he does, then that’s fantastic and I hope we get the best out of him. I’m just worried about the fact that Blackburn will have Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes up front, while Heskey and Gudjohnsen have a combined age of 72.

One was always known for their skill while the other was known for his physical strength- I need not mention who is who.

My guess will be that Wilkinson starts up top with Gudjohnsen playing in a deeper role and Heskey will come off the bench if he is eligible to play.

Here is some footage of Heskey displaying his exquisite skill and poise in a Bolton training kit:
