Everything You Want (Apart From The Last Few Minutes)

Bolton made it ten matches unbeaten following a 2-1 win over Cambridge United.

It was for about 70 minutes, maybe 80, a dominant performance. Everything we expected, we got. Possession, chances, an Eoin Doyle goal to break the deadlock, quickly followed by Antoni Sarcevic getting in on the act.

We had chances right through the game, and it could easily have been four or five, against a Cambridge side that are second in the league and are capable of finding the back of the net themselves. But we looked like the ones who were in the automatic promotion places.

With ten minutes to go, we decided to make things interesting. Matt Gilks let Kyle Knoyle’s effort squirm over the line, and that invited the pressure on for what was left of the game. It almost certainly would have led to questions had Cambridge completed the comeback, and would have left us in the frustrating position of dropping four points late on in games within the space of four days. But that wasn’t the case, and although Gilks should be disappointed with that effort, Ian Evatt has every right to point that he has bailed us out on occasions – Saturday just one of those moments.

It’s now onto Port Vale, let’s just hope we can keep this run going.
