Not getting Craig Dawson because West Brom won’t let him go is one thing, but not getting Dawson after he wants to come to the Reebok is another

Do you ever feel like the league is running away from you?

I don’t mean promotion is out of reach, or you’re locked in a relegation battle. I mean when you feel like our team is being dwarfed by the other teams in the division?

Being a Bolton fan, when promotion to the Premier League runs away from you- a la this season- the hope for the next season doesn’t diminish. You may be ultimately pessimistic or overly optimistic in your predictions, but the flame of hope and excitement remains flickering.

News from this mornings Bolton News, brought to us by the brilliant Marc Iles, however, licks the fingers of hope and excitement, somewhat, and douses such flame.

Craig Dawson is primed to make a switch to Wigan Athletic this loan window, even though he would favour a move to the Reebok.

Bolton Wanderers will not win promotion this season, whether Dawson moves here or not. But the symbolic failure to land the defender on loan is terrifying as well as baffling.

David Ngog left the Reebok last month and with him, took his £30,000-a-week wages. Since the Frenchman’s departure, the Whites haven’t come close to filling that £30,000-a-week wage gap with the recruitments of Liam Trotter and Yannick Bastos. Craig Dawson’s wages also wouldn’t come close to £30,000, so why aren’t we going for the Baggies’ man?

I’m not saying put the Whites’ financial status in jeopardy, but the reverse senario, and Ngog hadn’t joined the Swans and his wages would have still been our problem, would we have been punished? Would Ngog’s wages have put us over that danger line?

I’m not saying Craig Dawson’s inclusion would kick-start another surge up the league, but it would surely secure our Championship status…

Surely, right?

What do I know…
