Fixtures Out. Bolton Play Someone Sometime.

There was a large amount of excitement at X Towers this morning as Mrs X took delivery of a new bookcase, which means I’ve now got somewhere to stick my programmes. For the past three years they’ve been lying around the box room, gathering dust. Now they can lie in a bookcase, gathering dust.

At 9am, in between putting the bookcase together and deciding whether I should put the programmes in date order or team by team, my gaze was averted by the publication of the new season fixtures. Now, we haven’t got the rights to publish them, but we do have the right to say that we think the first game is winnable. Eminently winnable.

My local game is the week after. Again winnable. And by that time we should all be talking about Europa League football. We’re at home for Christmas and away for New Year and they’ve given us a sod for in between. And I think that’s all I can say. For anymore info go over to the official site, which is probably the only thing it’s good for. They’re also looking for a site journalist, after the last one had a bag put over their head and was never seen again after the club read this website. Probably.

With the World Cup taking virtually all airtime, and who would have thought Dirty Stan would be able to talk about the same thing over and over again ad infinitum, and the papers talking about nothing other than Rob Green’s howler, there has been virtually nothing worthwhile writing about T’Trotters. Shittu and his fellow Nigerians look a good bet for third place in their group, which means he should be able to leave The Reebok quicker. Chung-Yong played well against Greece and it should be interesting to see how he does today against Messi et al (UPDATE:HE SCORED) and Holden had a blink and you’ll miss it appearance against England.

Meanwhile the rubbish website hung onto Weiss as if he is one of our own by mentioning his appearance for Slovakia. Note to them, Weiss plays for Citeh. He probably won’t come back. Therefore, he isn’t one of ours.

Jussi has told the former BEN why his new kit is orange. It’s so he can confuse opposition strikers and make himself look bigger. He says:

‘It confuses a player when he`s shooting. They see the bright colour and then the ball and it`s confusing. Last season`s kit was grey and dull so I`m much happier with this year`s. It will help me keep more clean sheets.’

To be fair, last season’s goalkeeper kit was quite poor, matching the main kit. And it’s nice to see that the article partly blames Green’s kit for his blunder on Saturday, as if that makes any difference. I love it when people pull out this kind of tripe. Remember Euro ’96 when the FA thought that the grey top would be bought because it went well with jeans and it sold a lot less because who would want to be seen in tha?. I really don’t know who anyone is trying to kid about the orange top. It has as much chance of confusing your own defence as the opposition. It’s so kids will want one as it looks better than last years. Jussi doesn’t need a bright top, he just needs to keep snarling at his back four.

Cahill to Arsenal is getting closer to home as none other than The Emirates local publication, The Islington Gazette, has got in on the transfer talk. They mention that Bolton may accept £10million plus Little Jack for another year in the deal. And we should say no. We rate Wilshere, no doubt, but that is equivalent to a £5million loan fee for one more season. If Arsenal are that keen to bolster their back four, and they are, then if Cahill is to go then we should hold for the £15million+ we expect. If Jack is part of the deal, all well and good. Not for that amount though.

Finally a reminder that you can give us your thoughts on the season just gone and the season to come by answering our questions at the interview page and then emailing bolton@vitalfootball.co.uk. Some interesting answers so far, although I’m not sure if Muur wants to bang or punch Joey Barton.
