Former Bolton Defender Passes Away

|

Former Bolton left-back JLloyd Samuel has lost his life in a car crash.

Aged just 37, he had been returning from dropping off his children at school this morning, when his vehicle collided with another, according to a Facebook post by the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association. Samuel was born in Trinidad and had been capped twice by the Soca Warriors, the country’s national team.

Samuel was Sammy Lee’s first signing when he arrived from Aston Villa in the summer of 2007. He spent four years on our books, making 20 Premier League appearances and started both legs in the European win over Atletico Madrid, then playing every game in the 2008-09 season. However, Gary Megson brought in Paul Robinson the following season, then a year later Owen Coyle signed Marcos Alonso. With an injury also being a factor, Samuel was loaned out to Cardiff for the second half of his final season, before spending the rest of his professional career in the unlikely surroundings of Iran.

Samuel leaves behind a wife and three children. Rest in peace, JLloyd.
