The latest championship fixture of the season saw Bolton on their travels at the weekend.

Bolton went to Huddersfield Town’s John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday virtually safe from relegation but coming away with a 1-0 win just about secured it.

Not too long ago this isn’t a game that Dougie Freeman felt his side would have come through with a win but hailed the spirit and commitment shown in the game to win it and as the season has unfolded in recent months.

The Bolton boss told the media: ‘We got the result that a spirited and committed performance deserved.

Wanderers have now lost just once in 10 matches after a bad start to the campaign, and Freedman said:

‘We wouldn’t have got this result four months ago.

‘I took on this job 20 months ago and I said I wanted people here who were coming, not because we had been in the Premier League or because of the stadium, but because they wanted to play for the shirt.

‘We know (we) have a resolute resilience and commitment among the players and we are playing good football.’

Joe Mason, who comes to the end of his loan spell with Bolton from Cardiff city in two games time, scored the winning goal in injury-time to extend the run to just one defeat on the last ten games.

The early part of the season was a struggle, it’s taken time to built and move on but he’s happy with the final product with this ‘testing time’ better early in his managerial spell he feels.

He added: ‘It’s best that I go through that as a young manager.

‘It’s been a difficult time but we have always known the answers. We had to build very slowly and the chairman and the fans had to know that.

‘We have built slowly and had to bring a few players in on loan and that’s what we had to do to go forward.’

Mr Ecky sends his best to the Vital Bolton community, he’s currently not well, he’ll be back as soon as possible and in the meantime, he’s got a staff writer to fill in for him.

If anyone has something to share in the meantime (this gives a genuine Bolton point of view from a Bolton fan!) feel free to fire an email through.
