The latest Bolton game of this championship season, as it edges closer to a conclusion, was played at the weekend.

Bolton welcomed their local rivals Wigan Athletic to the Reebok Stadium at the weekend in a game that ended up in a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Dougie Freedman knows that Bolton have been through a ‘challenging time’ but applauded the efforts shown with him insisting that with little to play for, bar pride, for the duration of the season that ‘giving up’ isn’t an option.

The Bolton boss said: It’s been a challenging time for us but these players put in a huge effort and we should be proud of that.’

‘That’s not something that’s going to happen at this football club. These players will not give up on anything. They will play for every minute.’

Lukas Jutkiewicz had put Bolton ahead with Nick Powell denying them three points against their local rivals, which could have been less has Adam Bogdan not saved an injury-time penalty from Jordi Gomez.

It was a decision not to award a red card to Leon Barnett that most disappointed Freedman though, with him critical of the referee for the decision not to red card the defender and for some of his other decisions.

He added: I don’t like criticising referees and I thought he had a good match today but I was very, very disappointed by the decision he made.

‘It was a decision which gave them that little bit of hope to get back in the game in the end.

‘It’s a difficult match for referees and I’m not one to criticise them because I know how difficult their job is, but I just can’t get my head around the decision.

‘He’s through on goal and it’s just a very poor decision. On the replay it’s even worse. It’s a huge turning point in the game and I think we had the opportunity to go 2-0 up.’

Mr Ecky sends his best to the Vital Bolton community, he’s currently not well, he’ll be back as soon as possible and in the meantime, he’s got a staff writer to fill in for him.

If anyone has something to share in the meantime (this gives a genuine Bolton point of view from a Bolton fan!) feel free to fire an email through.
