Bolton Wanderers finally got their pre-season off and running with a 2-1 win away at National League side Halifax Town.
Adam Le Fondre put Wanderers ahead capping off a counter-attacking move, before Sammy Ameobi’s header put us 2-0 up after the break. Clayton Donaldson could have had Bolton’s third, but the flag was up for offside.
We had started with arguably our strongest team, except for Erhun Oztumer and arguably Pawel Olkowski, but on the 60th minute mark, a complete change in personnel was made. Oztumer came on along with a mixture of youth and fringe players, while Jack Hobbs, who we are looking at, played in the centre of defence.
Mekhi McLeod pulled one back for the Shaymen with a fine individual run but Wanderers held on for a win.
1st-60th minute team: Alnwick; Little, Wheater, Beevers, Taylor; Buckley, Vela, Lowe, Ameobi; Donaldson, Le Fondre
61st-90th minute team: Turner; Johnson, Hobbs, Edwards, Darby; Pritchard, Earing; Noone, Oztumer, Politic; Hall
Luca Connell replaced the injured Chiori Johnson
NB: We don’t have corners, fouls or possession numbers
